YUS On

CHO Oyu

Mount Cho Oyu

At 8188 meters, Cho Oyu is the sixth highest mountain in the world. It is located on the border of Tibet (China) and Nepal about 20 km to the west of Mount Everest.

Climbing Cho Oyu is not a very technical expedition as there are very few objective dangers on the mountain. However, it takes lots of endurance to get through the long days of climbing especially from Camp 1 to Camp 2. Camp 3 is perched on a steep slope that requires lots of digging to pitch a tent. The summit is a spacious one where one can walk about safely without the fear of walking off the mountain.

It is relatively easy to get to Cho Oyu Advance Base Camp.  The Base Camp is accessible by jeep and it takes a few hours trek to get to Advance Base Camp.

In 2014, I was part of the Aluminaid Team Singapura Everest 2015 Mt Cho Oyu expedition. Mt Cho Oyu was meant to be the last training climb before the eventual Mt Everest SG50 expedition for the team. The team made it on the summit of Mt Cho Oyu on 29th September 2014 making it our first 8000m mountain. I summited the mountain with my team members Ismail Latiff and Md Hilwan.

My experience on Cho Oyu was an experience I will never forget. Watch the video below that shows one of the proudest moments of my life. You can also check out the expedition photos here.
